The Team

“I love crafting. I love making things. I love collecting things and I enjoy sharing it and teaching it.”

Jim Nutting, Owner

Raised in central Maine, Nutting pursued a biology degree at Bates College in the ‘70s. After graduating, he took a stained glass class in Lewiston, sparking a passion that would eventually become his life’s work.

In 1997, after a career in the medical field, he co-founded Maine Art Glass Studio in partnership with his mentor, Nel Bernard. Housed in a renovated 12,000-square-foot church, the studio is now a dynamic space that includes a retail gallery, instructional workshops, a working studio, and the unique Butterfly & Insect Museum—a reflection of Jim’s deep-rooted love for the natural world.

Jim specializes in intricate stained glass designs in all styles. He especially enjoys creating custom glass boxes that showcase preserved insects, flowers, and marine life. As a dedicated teacher, he offers classes for all skill levels, helping students explore their creativity through the art of stained glass. His work, both artistic and educational, has made Maine Art Glass Studio a creative destination and a hub for nature-inspired artistry.

Jim Nutting is a Maine-based stained glass artist, educator, and naturalist whose work brings the beauty of nature into vivid and colorful forms. With a lifelong passion for collecting butterflies, insects, seashells, and other natural specimens, Jim seamlessly blends science and art in everything he creates.
